March 25, 2012 Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc. President, Toshio Nishizawa We extend our deepest apologies to all residents of the neighboring region of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant as well as broader society for the concern and anxiety that arose on account of the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In addition to the shutdown of the reactors at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations, each reactor at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station has also been shut down for regular inspection. From March 26th, we will begin the regular inspection of Unit 6 at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station. This will result in the shut down of all nuclear reactors operated by TEPCO.

We would like to thank the local residents for their understanding of the decisions we had to make concerning the operations of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station following the devastating Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake. While carrying through with the regular inspections of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station, we will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to ensure that the safety margin against earthquakes and tsunamis exceeds the design standards. We will also implement measures to further enhance the safety and reliability against tsunamis. As for the electricity supply and demand in the foreseeable future, we expect to maintain stable supply. However, we ask that you continue to make a reasonable effort to save electricity. In addition, while we have been carefully reviewing this summer's electricity supply and demand, the shut down of Unit 6 will result in a significant reduction in our electricity supply capacity. We will continue to make efforts to maintain stable operations and maintenance of the power facilities in order to secure stable power supply.
